NEXSW Tour 2023: Berkeley Springs to Easton
Tour recap: June 9, 2023
I never was able to fill this date (Friday, June 9) with a gig in the right place at the right time for the right amount of money. Had some nibbles but they didn't materialize, which was disappointing. So it was just a travel day, which began with a home-cooked breakfast eaten on the screened-in porch of our cabin at Cacapon Resort State Park.
We weren't allowed to stay parked at our cabin after check-out time, so we parked up by the main lodge building where there was easy access to a trail, and went on a loop hike of close to 3 miles. In many places, the shrub layer was thick with blueberries and huckleberries -- not ripe yet, but taunting us with visions of blueberry pie.
Along the way we came across Cabin #10, which, for future reference, would be a great place to stay with enough space if we want to bring the dogs. It's the last cabin on a dead-end road, not close to other cabins, so solitude would be pretty much assured.
I'd like to show you a picture of the spiffy scarlet tanager male we saw, but although we got a great look at him, every photo we tried to take was worse than the last.
We had lunch at the main lodge. Here's a view of it from a distance, as we were leaving the park:
We went into the town of Berkeley Springs to explore a bit, starting with a fun antique shop that had a great display of colored glassware.
And then we hit the road, headed for Easton, PA, about 200 miles away. After repacking the van, there was no visibility in back whatsoever.
We rented an Airbnb home in Easton. It didn't look like much from the outside, but it was pretty nice on the inside, and we had lots of space. And the location was great, easily walkable to various restaurants and watering holes. Once we parked at the house we didn't drive again until it was time to leave town the next morning.
We had dinner at Two Rivers Brewing Co., which is in such a cool building! Might be a possible venue for us to play in the future.
