Irvington and Urbanna weekend
As I sit down to write this blog, I'm aware of the terrible news from yesterday that there was a fatal shooting at a graduation ceremony right here in Richmond. And the air quality is terrible because of wildfires raging way up in Canada. And on the other end of the spectrum, we're excited to leave on our Northeast by Southwest tour tomorrow. So my mind is split among many thoughts. But I wanted to get last weekend documented before heading out on new adventures.
We had two gigs last weekend: one at the Irvington Farmers Market on Saturday morning, and one at the Arts in the Middle Festival in Urbanna on Sunday afternoon. We got an Airbnb for the weekend and headed out there on Friday night. It was a spacious, comfy, one-bedroom upstairs apartment above a fishing operation.
The best part about it was the view from the deck.
We really, REALLY wished we had our kayaks with us, because we could have put them in the water just a few yards from where we parked.
But we haven't had a chance to get roof racks installed on Teddy yet, so no boats.
The market was only an 8 minute drive from our apartment, making for a pretty chill morning on Saturday. In the past, coming from Richmond, we had to leave by 6:30 in the morning to get there in time to start playing at 9:30. The weather was perfect and all the vendor slots were sold out.
In addition to produce, there were, as always, a number of vendors selling artsy things. These were a few of my faves.
After the market, we got lunch in town, then headed over to the beach bar at Horn Harbor to have cocktails and read our books with toes in the sand.
On Sunday morning, since we had to check out and didn't feel like dirtying up any more dishes, I went out and picked up breakfast from Chesapeake Donuts. We really didn't need a half dozen donuts for the two of us, but I was having trouble deciding among flavors so...
